Huge thanks to BBC Countryfile and presenter Tom Heap for promoting The Big Wasp Survey on their programme on Sunday 3rd Sept 2017. We enjoyed appreciating the beauty of our beloved social wasps up close, through the amazing footage. Tom Heap was joined by BBC naturalist Nick Baker, and Big Wasp Survey scientist Dr Seirian Sumner (UCL) to understand why we need the Survey, in order to know more about social wasps, and better understand the critical roles these insects play in the natural world.
The BBC Countryfile’s coverage on Sunday night instigated a new surge in registrations by mebmers of the public to take part in The Big Wasp Survey. This was beyond all expectations: we exceeded our target of 2000 registrations within 8 hours of the broadcast!
